FutureChef is a four stage nationwide culinary programme helping young people aged 12-16 to learn to cook. It inspires them to explore food and cooking as a life skill, helps to develop their culinary talent and informs them about entry routes into the hospitality industry. The programme encourages the next generation of young chefs and of course crowns one talented student as the FutureChef winner!
Now in its 10th year, FutureChef was developed as the result of research findings into young people's perception of the industry. The research revealed that young people admire higher profile and celebrity chefs yet surprisingly few generally consider a career as a chef!
FutureChef addresses these perceptions directly by introducing young people to cooking, helping to develop their skills, developing direct work experience in the industry and providing expert advice on the career options and entry routes available. It provides teachers and young people alike with a wonderful insight into what its like to be a chef and the related career opportunities.
This national programme continues to grow with record numbers of schools, students and chefs involved in 2009.
